Freezer Meal Hacks

Freeze Foods Flat in Bags to Decrease Thaw Time

The whole point of freezer meals is being able to feed your family homemade food even when you don’t have time to cook. Of course, if the food takes forever to thaw that defeats the purpose. One of my favorite freezer meal hacks is to freeze things like soup, chili, and taco meat in freezer bags making sure the contents lie flat. As a result, the meals will store flat in the freezer and are quicker to thaw.

Laminate Instructions to Use Over and Over

If you make certain meals on a regular basis, purchase some of the laminating sheets from the Dollar Tree. You can use these without a machine. Write the instructions on an index card and laminate. You’ll then be able to attach the instructions to your meals over and over again. This is also a great idea if you join a freezer meal club. Write the recipe and instructions on the cards and the members will be able to recreate your recipe and attach the cards to their own meals.

Focus on Freezing Just Part of the Meal

You don’t have to freeze an entire meal. In the video How to Freeze Taco Meat, I show you how easy it is to make and freeze taco meat for later use. This can make your life so easy. Then, all you have to do is thaw and heat the meat while the shells are heating in the oven and pull the other ingredients from the fridge. You can also do this with pasta sauce, Sloppy Joes, etc.

Pop Some Pizza Dough in the Freezer

Why make one batch of pizza dough when you can make several? Pizza dough can be placed in freezer bags and frozen for later use. To thaw, place the bag of frozen dough in cold water, changing the water every 15 to 20 minutes until thawed.

Marinate Chicken Breasts Before Freezing

Chicken is not only a go-to for many families, but chicken breasts are also low in fat and calories and high in protein. When you purchase chicken breasts in bulk, take the time to marinate some of the breasts before freezing. This allows you to have a yummy marinated chicken breasts ready to go whenever you want them.

Buy Disposable Pans in Bulk to Save Money

If you plan to cook a lot of freezer meals, do yourself a favor and purchase disposable pans in bulk. Make sure to compare prices so that you get the best price possible. For smaller batches of freezer meals, the Dollar Tree is a great option and sells pans in a variety of sizes.

Cook Meals with the Same Ingredients

Last, but not least, use the same ingredients for different meals. This not only saves time when prepping the ingredients, but it can save you money as well. You can buy the items in bulk and you can avoid wasting food because the ingredients get used in the different recipes. For example, you could make a batch of meaty pasta sauce and lasagna at the same time.

These freezer meal hacks can make your life so much easier. Pretty soon, your freezer will be filled with delicious meals your family loves that you didn’t have to spend a lot of time making. Remember, in most cases it’s just as easy to double or triple a recipe as it is to make one batch. Why not make the most of your time?
