Brandless was a store I once loved. In fact, I wrote a post a while back entitled 5 Reasons to Love Brandless. If you follow my YouTube channel, you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t done a haul from the company in quite some time. So, what happened? Why did I break up with Brandless?
Brandless sells organic, eco-friendly, and non-GMO products. The prices start at $1.50 per item and go up from there. When the company started, it was much different than what we see today. Has the company grown? Of course. Have the number of products grown? Definitely. So, what went wrong? Why did I fall out of love with the company?
How Brandless Changed
Free Shipping Minimum Increased
At one time you could order $38 worth of products and get free shipping. To me, this was a bit high when compared to other companies, but I felt that it was worth it for the products the company was offering. A few months back, the company raised the minimum price to $48 for free shipping. That’s quite an increase. Many people I know stopped shopping with the company then and there. It just wasn’t worth it to them. I felt the same, but eventually pushed past that. I figured if I loved the products, it was still worth it. When I went to place my order though, something else had changed.
Brandless Raised the Prices
What I, and many others, loved most about Brandless were the prices. Products were $3 or less. That was amazing for organic, eco-friendly, and non-GMO products. That was my biggest praise of the company. It was something that everyone could afford. The company was making organic products available for those with smaller budgets. Why did that change? I understand that companies need to make a profit. I also understand the principle of starting with low prices and increasing them once you’ve got the buyers. As someone with a business degree, and business owner, I understand a lot about Brandless – even their clever idea to create a brand that is supposedly “brandless”. But some items the company offered increased roughly 67-percent. That, for me, was just too much.
Is It Still Worth It?
Let’s say you didn’t get in on the beginning when prices and shipping minimum were lower. Is Brandless still worth it? I did a basic search to compare two items to see if Amazon was less expensive. On Brandless, Acacia and silicone kitchen utensils are $4 each. However, you can get a set of 8 on Amazon that look almost exactly the same for $24. That’s already an $8 savings. It’s also available through Prime shipping. If you’re already a Prime member, like me, why would you spend more than you have to? With that said, there are still some amazing food products you can get for only $3 or less. If you want to fill your pantry, and meet the minimum price for free shipping, it may still be worth it for you.
For me, Brandless just isn’t worth it anymore and that’s so sad. I loved the company. I loved being able to go on there and find such amazing products at affordable prices. Not only did the company offer snacks that I enjoyed, but I loved buying their kitchen items for gifts. I also loved the lemon verbena body scrub and cleaning wipes. I’ll miss Brandless but as REO Speedwagon once said, “I believe it’s time for me to fly.”
